Aaron Hieb and McKinsey Tate enjoyed growing up in Mitchell but lived in other South Dakota towns after college.

Aaron attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls on a golf scholarship graduating with a degree in Business Administration. McKinsey graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell with a Secondary Education and English degree. McKinsey then moved to Madison and then Sioux Falls.

What brought them back to Mitchell? McKinsey returned to Mitchell five years ago when an English teacher position became available at Mitchell High School. She now teaches with some of the teachers who taught her.

Aaron moved back to Mitchell three years ago when he ran the Parkston County Club. He now works for the Mitchell Convention and Visitors Bureau as the Events Coordinator and Sports Authority.

Although they knew each other vaguely before, McKinsey said, “We connected after Aaron attended my grandmother’s Celebration of Life in 2019.”  Aaron added, “McKinsey reached out to me about a month after meeting at the Celebration of Life.”  They were engaged six months later and then married in an intimate back-yard wedding October 2020.

With their marriage, an instant family was formed with McKinsey’s children Quinn, age 15, and Asher is 12. Quinn is a sophomore at Mitchell High School, and Asher is in the 7th grade at Mitchell Middle School. The Hieb-Tate family also includes two dogs, a black lab named Smoke and an English Bulldog named Annie.

“Sports and the outdoors are important to our family, said McKinsey. “We are always traveling to take in as many of the kids’ activities as possible.”  Both Quinn and Asher children play varsity golf and do the summer golf tour.

Aaron loves to ice fish, and McKinsey loves to deer hunt. Fall-pheasant hunting is another outdoor activity enjoyed. It’s no wonder they have chosen Mitchell as their family home. They also have the bonus of having parents and grandparents close by,

McKinsey stated, “Quinn and Asher loved Mitchell from the moment we moved here and quickly found friends and activities they enjoy. It is the perfect place to raise our family.”
