    Mitchell United Way
    Job Description
    The United Way of Mitchell, located in Mitchell, SD, is searching for a highly engaged, full-time Executive Director.  The Executive Director reports to the Mitchell United Way Board of Directors and leads the organization’s overall efforts to offer hope and help to those in our communities who need it the most. 

    The Executive Director directs the overall operation of the organization including community impact, resource development, and resource distribution.  S/he will be responsible for ensuring the organization is efficiently and effectively managed, well positioned in the community, and adequately resourced to achieve our desired community impact.  The successful candidate will be a visionary leader, possess organizational leadership and management skills, be able to grow business and revenue, and have a partnership mindset. 

    Primary Job Responsibilities

    • Develop, define and support strategies to increase annual fundraising, attract and retain donors and promote year-round engagement within our communities.
    • Build cohesive relationships with business partner champions to elevate United Way’s value proposition.
    • Increase participation and average giving by building a network of United Way ambassadors within business partner relationships.
    • Define and implement strategies to develop relationships with agencies and the business community.
    • Proactively identify corporate prospects and align company goals to the number of ways they may partner with the United Way via employee giving campaigns, corporate match programs, corporate gifts or sponsorships.
    • Develop growth and strategic plans for the organization
    • Stay apprised of trends or issues in relevant industries that affect business climate or culture, and economic environment which could impact fund development.
    • Work with MUW Board Members to identify, develop and implement opportunities to communicate community impact work and the goals and priorities to key stakeholders.
    • Evaluate opportunities to enhance the employee giving campaign and make suggestions for improvement.
    • Responsible for Grant Writing

    Minimum Qualifications
    • BA/BS degree preferred. Related experience and training considered;
    • Strong organizational skills, keen attention to detail, and independent initiative to problem-solve;
    • Experience balancing multiple demands in the face of conflicting priorities;
    • Ability to collect, analyze, and synthesize data;
    • Must have considerable ingenuity and initiative; excellent oral and written communication skills;
    • Familiarity with operational requirements of nonprofit agencies;
    • Ability to recruit, retain, and engage staff, volunteer board members, committee members, and community leaders in collaboration with the MUW board of directors;
    • Ability to plan, monitor and evaluate budgets;
    • Capacity to organize, plan and implement activities appropriate to further organizational goals;
