    Mitchell Chamber reconfigures CVB position
     
    Mitchell, S.D. – The Mitchell Chamber of Commerce will reconfigure the vacant Convention & Visitors Bureau director position to provide more and different services aimed at bringing visitor dollars to Mitchell.
    “I think it is always wise to evaluate a position when someone leaves,” said Mark Vaux, executive director of the Chamber and the Mitchell Area Development Corporation. “What we found was that we have a lot of talent already on staff, and by reconfiguring some job functions to take advantage of those talents, we open up an opportunity for an entirely new position without adding dollars to the budget.”
    The new position, events coordinator, is now being advertised.  The new events coordinator will be responsible for sales and marketing of Mitchell as a site for conferences, meetings, athletics and other special events with the goal of increasing overnight hotel stays and generating additional sales and entertainment tax dollars in the community.
    The CVB is a division of the Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce, so budget and staff oversight will be managed by Sonya Moller, Chamber director; her title will change to reflect that she is also the director of the CVB.
