Join the team of dedicated men and women firefighters in the Mitchell Community as they provide services in fire as well as emergency medical situations.
This full-time position performs fire prevention and suppression, emergency medical service, and rescue activities. Drives assigned apparatus to fire, rescue and emergency medical calls. Responds to fire alarms and uses firefighter skills to evaluate and carry out actions to most efficiently control the emergency at hand; assists with the fighting of structural fires. Operates a variety of pumps, ladders, hoses and other equipment, along with medical equipment. Responsible for the inspection of vehicles and equipment, washes and maintains equipment, performs routine maintenance, and ensures the proper functioning of all emergency medical equipment and vehicles. Maintains inventory for supplies and equipment. Performs public education services such as fire prevention presentations, CPR classes, fire station tours, and safety. Performs housekeeping, grounds keeping, and building maintenance duties.
EMS certification required.
Firefighter EMT starting at $56,964per year; Firefighter Paramedic starting at $62,877 per year.

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
Possession of valid SD Driver's License.
Firefighters for the City of Mitchell are required to pass the NFPA 1582 Physical on an annual basis. EMT Certification required.
